I love the stories that come with vintage quilts! The awesome story with this quilt is that this quilt top (not a finished quilt) was found in my customer's father's attic. Her grandmother had pieced together this quilt top and never finished it.
There was also backing fabric with the quilt top. Although I had to add about 2 feet of matching fabric to make it big enough to fit the quilt top.
The really cool thing about the backing was that it was feed sack cloth. Feed sack cloth was reused by women in the 1920's --think Great Depression-- until about the mid 1950's to make clothing, quilts, and other items. The feed sack manufacturers even started printing designs on them like small flowers, polka dots and stripes.

The quilt top and backing were in excellent condition. I repaired a few small holes. Hand washed the top and backing, let it dry while it was laying flat.
After it was dry, I sandwiched the top, batting, and backing (which I added a piece of new matching quilting cotton to it to make it long enough for the top). Then I carefully machine quilted it.
After The quilting was finished I added new matching fabric to bind the quilts edges. I was so happy to find fabric that was almost exact match to the blue in the quilt for the edges.
What an honor it was to finish this quilt!!
